On Friday, singer and pianist Harry Connick Jr. found himself jamming with the cool cats at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts.
In town for a show at the Winspear Opera House, Connick spent time visiting with about 100 students at Booker T., where he talked about his experiences in music, television and the movies. He also fielded questions from the kids while periodically demonstrating his points on piano.
When a jazz ensemble of five Booker T. students performed a tune, Harry jumped in midsong on piano and improvised.
Connick was clearly impressed with the Dallas arts high school.
“When I was a kid, I always dreamed of attending a school like this,” he said. “It’s like Willie Wonka & the Chocolate Factory for artists.”
